Roughnecks Army List

I've been thinking a little about how I'd put together my guard army to represent elements of the Starship Troopers mobile infantry. Some things are pretty obvious, like including lots of bodies, auto-cannons, grenade launchers etc.  They there are the characters from the films and which special characters in the guard codex could be used to represent them fluff-wise or by effect on the game.

The New Paints

I've had a go with the new paints, as have plenty of others out there and I thought I'd add my thoughts to the rest.

Base - much like foundations, perhaps a little smoother and apparently have a different medium which won't separate as much when diluted.

Layers - also similar to the old paints, but with a slightly higher pigment concentration to provide better coverage, and using a similar medium to the bases for less separation.

This is when it starts to really get new

No painting till April

I'm sure everyone out there knows the now not much of a rumour that GW is completely re-doing its paint range in next months White Dwarf (see pic of new paint pot designs above).  GW has even released a completely useless and uninformative "video trailer" that is supposed to be "cryptic" but is in fact just pointless.

They are re-naming all the paints and you can get the full list of colours here, and now we even have a poster which shows all the paint colours and their names (not that the colours on the poster will resemble anything like the real colour of the paints) which I've included below but which I got from Stahly's Tale of Painters.

First Mobile Infantry squad painted

You'll see from here that I'm re-posting up my guard blog posts here, and this is the follow on with the first squad of the Mobile Infantry painted up, very quick to paint, nice and easy, and the colour scheme is pretty close to the Starship Troopers films (ie: pretty monochrome).

The fatigues are Codex Grey, the armour is Adeptus Battlegrey, weapons etc are black, everything gets a good dry brush with Fortress Grey and the insignia get painted with it, washed with Badab Black, flesh then gets a quick coat before being washed with ogryn flesh.
Thats it, painted up, bases will be earth colours drybrushed up to bone to give it that sandy/dusty look of the bug planets.

The painting probably only took me a couple of hours for the entire squad (the trouble was finding that time) so I think I can bash out a decent sized force of meat for the grinder in little time when I get the opportunity. These guys were shelved temporarily not too long after this, but one day I may return to them.

Cheers, Andy

Why doesn't the UK have Battle Bunkers?

Around about the middle of last year, I was lucky enough to be passing through LA on my way back from a job, and had some time to kill, so I took a drive to the LA Battle Bunker.  I'd been keen to see what it was like after hearing a lot of good things not only about the gaming space available, but also the quality of the painting on display.  I certainly wasn't dissapointed!

You can see the gaming space below, and some of the brilliant tables available with permanently setup terrain.
