A Logan Grimnar force

Of course this has been done many other places, and most likely better than mine, but I'd love to play a Logan Grimnar Great Company force with my wolves for some fun games. I've been faffing around with trying to put together a list and thought I'd put what I have out in the blogosphere and see if some of you can add to it. Its a 1500 pts list which is the points level at the local GW, and is making use of a set of Black Reach terminators and a Wolf Guard boxset. I also have a terminator chaplain, Njal and will probably but a Logan Grimnar for this force.

Logan Grimnar
Rune Priest in terminator armour with Chooser of the Slain
Wolf Priest in terminator armour
525 pts
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with assault-cannon and power-weapon
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with storm-bolter and power-fist
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with storm-bolter and power-weapon
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with storm-bolter and wolf-claw
177 pts
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with heavy-flamer and wolf-claw
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with combi-melta and power-weapon
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with storm-bolter and chainfist
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with storm-bolter and wolf-claw
167 pts
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with heavy-flamer and wolf-claw
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with two wolf-claws
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with thunder-hammer and storm-shield
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with combi-melta and wolf-claw
Wolf Guard in terminator armour with combi-melta and chainfist
197 pts
Land Raider Crusader with multi-melta
2 x Drop Pods
330 pts

1449 pts

The general idea is that one of the characters goes with each squad, the Rune Priest probably with the assault-cannon squad to somewhat hang back and provide fire support, the Wolf Priest with the 5 strong squad in the Land Raider and they are tooled up for combat (Fearless and Preferred Enemy from the Wolf Priest) and Logan with the thirs squad. Theres combi-meltas and chainfists in all the squads to make sure that they can take out armour.

Theres 50 points left, what do people think I should do to change the force and use up those last 50 points?

Cheers, bG

Battle Missions first try

This is probably a bit behind the curve as I'm sure many of you have already got your hands on a copy of Battle Missions by now, but I thought I'd throw out my 2p.

Space Wolf Special Characters

Something came up during the game on Friday night that I would call somewhat a moment of realisation for me. Perhaps a lot of you had already realised this, but I came to note that for most of the Space Wolf special characters, they are far more effective when teamed up with a complimentary squad than they could ever be on their own.

Take Ragnar and his performance on Friday. In the Lion and the Wolf confrontation not only did he lose, he lost in close combat. He'd taken a wound before getting there, but still he lost to a Dark Angels character in assault and this is Ragnar, supposedly the master of assaults amongst the Space Wolves. Compare this to his performance in the game along with the Wolf Guard squad he was with. They single handedly cleared an entire side of the board of numerous different tyranids, the squad dealing out 10's of attacks at I5 with +1S. They were monstrous.

Having gone back to look over the other characters in the codex it is pretty obvious to me now that almost all of the special characters in the Space Wolf codex will perform so much better when teamed up with a complementary squad (often tooled up wolf guard). Its a bit of a difference from the Space Marines codex where many of the characters can be taken on their own and still be just as effective as ever.

Perhaps I'm stating something far too obvious, but wanted to put this out there for your views, and to see what others opinions on this matter might be.

Long Fangs

I finally managed to put together some of those lovely new Long Fangs - chosing a double heavy-bolter, double missile-launcher and a single lascannon combination. At 145pts thats not too bad! Other than the lone wolf, these were my first time working with the new space wolf box of bits and there is so much there. I've only used a couple of items on each character (mostly heads) and it very easily gives them enough difference to set them apart from regular devestator marines.
