Come on then, bring the hate!
I want to make myself a Space Marine's army, "One Force" that I can use across most, if not all Codices. I'd like to be able to try different armies across the Space Marine range and with my current Space Wolves its just a bit too difficult to try and field them as other type.
I also want to use some of the lovely Forgeworld early marque armours and this is the perfect excuse.
I've been working on a colour-scheme based around current day military fatigues and technologies. I would like to make the force to be as if it was a rapid reaction force, plenty of jump packs and scouts to designate the targets. The ideas for the colour scheme are:

- Single colour green "camouflage" armour colour.
- Metals are blued-black rather than shiny raw metals. Giving a look more like real guns.
- Weapon housing are grey-highlighted black as if a composite. Similarly for tubes, joints etc.
- Plenty of battle damage to the armour.
- Weathering of the lower parts of the armour to indicate plenty of time in the field.
So that it can take the place of my Space Wolves, or a generic vanilla marines force, I'll be needing 3 tactical squads and a couple of devastator squads. I'd also like to do a jump pack blood angels force so that'll require 3 full assault squads with jump packs (I may just use these as counts as tac squads if I magnetise the jump packs, attach bolters somewhere).
I think I'll make the Devastator squads out of the MkII and MkIII suits as they have a heavy, solid appearance to them
Then I'll make the Tactical/Assault Squads from the MkIV, MkV and perhaps MkVI suits as they appear lighter and more flexible.

I also want to include a lot of bionics to the force as I want to give the whole lot the appearance that they have been in the field for a long time, have taken casualties and injuries and are just keeping themselves held together with whatever tech they can.
Anyway, I'll be following this up over the coming weeks and months with some ideas for the colour scheme, perhaps some test painting, and compiling lists of bits that I'll be considering to give the whole force a coherent look.
Thanks for looking in, cheers - Andy

Heresy! You are such a WAAC gamer, wanting to be able to take one army and use 8 codexes for it!
ReplyDeleteNow that that is out of the way, I have really been contemplating this for my own space wolves army. It just makes sense.
I can't wait to see your all purpose marines.

ReplyDeleteYes, I just can't stop myself from wanting to game every codex to within an inch of its life! Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!
< /sarcasm > :)
Its going to be a slow project, but I've got a test mini on the go at the moment and I'm trying to figure out a colour-scheme that I'm happy with, and that I can paint in a way that I like. I've also decided that I'll be experimenting with battle damage and weathering with them, so no pressure there :D
My problem lately is that I don't really feel like doing a lot of anything, hence why I am doing a little bit of a lot of things.
